GAHP is seeking an experienced senior technical professional to provide strategic and technical advice on reducing lead emissions and exposure from used lead-acid battery (ULAB) smelters and other industrial sources as part of the Lead in Food project.
The consultant will work with GAHP and government and regulatory partners to strengthen technical approaches to emissions control, ULAB management and environmentally sound recycling.
Duration: Consultancy, September 2026 onwards

Key Responsibilities
Research and prepare a technical background report on ULAB smelters, emissions and pollution-control approaches, including a concise summary for use in senior government discussions.
Assess different smelter technologies, emissions profiles and pollution-control systems, and compare these with relevant regulatory standards.
Develop recommendations for strengthening emissions-control requirements for ULAB smelters in India,
Assess ULAB collection and supply-chain systems and advise on traceability, transport, authorised recycling and circular-economy approaches.
Provide technical advice to government and regulatory agencies through written guidance, consultations and meetings.
Develop practical recommendations and action plans to strengthen ULAB regulation, emissions control and environmentally sound recycling.
Provide technical input to policy and regulatory processes and respond to technical requests from government partners.
Undertake other related technical activities agreed with GAHP/GRIT and the Principal Investigator.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate will be a highly experienced technical professional with demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following:
ULAB recycling, battery recycling or industrial smelting;
Lead emissions and pollution-control technologies;
Industrial emissions monitoring and regulatory standards;
Environmental engineering, chemical engineering, metallurgy or a related technical field;
Circular economy and hazardous-waste management.
Experience providing technical advice to governments or regulatory authorities, particularly in India or other low- and middle-income countries, is highly desirable.
The candidate should have excellent analytical, writing and communication skills and be able to translate complex technical information into practical recommendations for policymakers and senior government officials.
