Geneva, June 2025. This month marked the successful conclusion of the first annual module on Chemicals and Health, developed by the Global Alliance on Health and Pollution (GAHP) as part of the Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) for Public Health Executives at the Institute of Global Health, University of Geneva.
The course was designed to equip current and future public health professionals with essential knowledge and tools to address pollution-related health risks, particularly those posed by chemical exposures. It focused on key areas such as pollution and toxic exposure, decision-making tools within the international chemical agenda, and the health and biodiversity impacts of lead and other pollutants.
At GAHP, we believe that raising awareness of chemical pollution and its health consequences—especially in low- and middle-income countries—is crucial. Engaging with students through this academic partnership helps build a new generation of public health leaders who recognize the importance of environmental determinants of health and are prepared to act on them.
The training was led by GAHP experts, including Mrs. Maria Paola Lia and Dr. Lilian Corra, who brought valuable insights into lead pollution and its long-term impact.
This program reinforces the importance of multisectoral approaches in tackling pollution issues worldwide. It was made possible thanks to the support of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection of Germany until February, followed by support from the Canton and Republic of Geneva, up until May and GAHP and UNIGE its conclusion in June 2025.
