About the Assignment
The Global Alliance on Health and Pollution (GAHP), in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), is seeking a qualified consultant to support technical work on lead management in selected ECOWAS countries.
The consultant will lead the preparation of four national Lead Mass Balance assessments and provide technical support for the project.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and apply a methodology for national lead mass balance analysis.
Identify key lead sources, flows, recycling pathways, and intervention points.
Gather and analyse data.
Prepare four country-level Lead Mass Balance Reports.
Support national lead management strategies in selected ECOWAS countries.
Provide technical input on global policy options to reduce lead contamination.
Provide ongoing technical support to the GAHP Project Coordinator.
Expected Deliverables
Inception Report with work plan and methodology.
Four Lead Mass Balance Reports (one per focus country).
Documentation of technical support activities.
Written technical inputs to global policy and legal framework development.
Any other tasks as required by the project.
Final activity report.
Required Profile
Advanced degree in environmental science, engineering, public health, or related field.
At least 7 years of experience in hazardous chemicals management.
Demonstrated experience in material flow or mass balance analysis.
Strong knowledge of lead contamination sources and lead-acid battery management.
Experience in policy analysis or legal framework development.
Experience working in ECOWAS countries is highly desirable.
Proven ability to work independently and deliver high-quality analytical reports.
Languages: Fluent in English, French, and Spanish, highly desirable.
Duration
Estimated duration: February 2026- December 2026.
Reporting to: GAHP Executive Director and working very closely with the Project Lead.
