ABOUT GAHP
The Global Alliance on Health and Pollution (GAHP) is a collaborative body of more than 70 members and dozens of observers that works through our network of international and national-level agencies to apply a multi-sectoral approach to addressing the global pollution crisis and its resulting health and economic impacts. GAHP advocates for resources and solutions to pollution problems, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, where pollution-related diseases are most severe. Our goal is to reduce the death and illness caused by toxic pollution in air, water, soil, and chemical waste. These efforts support Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
ABOUT THE POSITION
GAHP seeks a motivated, strategic, and creative Communication Officer to lead external communications related to the Environmental Protection Program (EPP) in Uganda. The key initiatives implemented include:
Developing a Health and Pollution Action Plan (HPAP): Engaging national and community stakeholders to create a tailored plan addressing Uganda's specific pollution challenges.
Policy Review: Examining Uganda’s Waste Management and Agriculture Policies, focusing on pollution impacts, Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), and human health.
Awareness Campaign: Partnering with the Youth Advocacy Development Network to create a coalition of CSOs to raise awareness about pollution's effects on health and the environment.
Research Collaboration: Working with the Universities of Birmingham and Makerere to study Traffic Related Air Pollution in Kampala.
The Communication Officer will ensure that reports, findings, recommendations, and outcomes of the various initiatives are effectively communicated to national and international stakeholders, the media, development partners, and the general public through targeted storytelling, press, and digital media content.
