2025 - 2026 Training Module on: Chemicals and Health: Navigating Pollution, Toxic Exposure, and Sustainable Solutions - Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Public Health, University of Geneva) 


Pollution remains the largest environmental cause of disease and premature death worldwide. Addressing it requires informed leadership across institutions and sectors.

Overview 

The Global Alliance on Health and Pollution (GAHP) collaborates with the University of Geneva’s Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Public Health to deliver a specialised learning module on Chemicals and Health.

Designed for mid-career public health professionals, this course addresses critical issues related to environmental health, focusing on the challenges and solutions associated with chemical pollutants and their impact on human health. 

Gahp X Unige 2024Building on the success of the initial collaboration in 2024- 2025, GAHP and the University of Geneva have renewed their partnership to continue offering this annual module as part of the MAS curriculum.  

The module reinforces GAHP’s commitment to education, evidence-based policy, and capacity-building for a cleaner, healthier future.  

About the Module 

  • Module Name: Chemicals and Health: Navigating Pollution, Toxic Exposure, and Sustainable Solutions.
  • Credits: 2.5 ECTS (equivalent to 25–30 hours of guided learning).
  • Format: A mix of online thematic lectures, interactive group work, and case-based learning. 

Delivery: 

  • GAHP international experts and researchers. 

The module provides participants with: 

  • A scientific grounding in the public health impacts of chemical pollution.
  • Exposure to global and national policy frameworks (including the Global Framework on Chemicals and Waste).
  • Practical case studies that connect real-world pollution challenges with multisectoral solutions.
  • Skills to analyse exposure risks and develop health-protective policy recommendations. 

Learning Objectives 

By the end of the module, participants will be able to:

  • Identify key chemical pollutants and their impacts on health and biodiversity.
  • Understand how global, regional, and national governance frameworks influence chemical safety policies.
  • Apply case-based learning to propose sustainable, health-centred interventions.
  • Communicate the urgency of pollution prevention using data and public health arguments to effectively convey the importance of this issue.
