[Job Opportunity] India Fieldwork Coordinator

GAHP is seeking an experienced fieldwork coordinator to support the implementation of the Lead in Food project in India. The Coordinator will work closely with Columbia University, GAHP, government authorities, and local partners to lead food sample collection and related field activities in accordance with approved research protocols.

2. Duration: Consultancy, September 2026 – 1 year

3. Type: Part-time/flexible consultancy

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development and adaptation of field protocols and sampling strategies, in coordination with Columbia University and the project team.

• Support engagement with relevant Government of India authorities and facilitate permissions and approvals required for field activities.

• Conduct preliminary field visits to identify suitable sampling locations and engage with farmers and other relevant stakeholders.

• Lead and coordinate food-sample and field data collection across multiple sites, ensuring compliance with approved protocols.

• Supervise and coordinate field data collectors and site teams, ensuring consistency and quality in field implementation.

• Support the appropriate handling, processing and documentation of samples and coordinate with designated laboratories responsible for analysis.

• Conduct or coordinate follow-up field activities to address gaps or complete the sampling programme.

• Organise regular meetings with field teams to monitor progress and address operational issues.

• Maintain accurate records of field activities and samples and provide regular updates to GAHP/GRIT and Columbia University on progress, challenges and emerging issues.

• Participate in wider project meetings and undertake other project-related activities as agreed.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate should be an experienced professional with a strong background in field-based research, preferably in food safety, environmental health, public health, agriculture, toxicology or a related discipline. The candidate should have:

• Demonstrated experience coordinating field research and multi-site sample collection.

• Experience supervising field teams and working with farmers, communities and other local stakeholders.

• Experience engaging with government authorities and research institutions in India.

• Strong organisational, coordination and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.

• Experience with food or environmental sample collection, handling and laboratory coordination is highly desirable.

• Ability to work independently and effectively with multidisciplinary and international teams.

• Excellent written and spoken English.
