The Global Alliance on Health and Pollution is pleased to welcome Dr. Nabaasa Herbert and Dr. Achaye Innocent as new GAHP’s Council Members. Both have been closely engaged in GAHP’s work under the Environmental Pollution Programme in Uganda (EPP UG) and bring strong national leadership and technical expertise that will further strengthen GAHP’s mission.
Dr. Nabaasa Herbert currently serves as Commissioner for Environmental Health at the Ministry of Health, where he oversees critical public health interventions related to safe water, sanitation and hygiene, waste management, and environmental health policy. His work directly addresses the health impacts of pollution, particularly among vulnerable populations. With a PhD in Public Health and extensive experience across government and UN systems, Dr. Nabaasa brings valuable insight into integrating pollution control with health systems strengthening, disease prevention, and national policy implementation.
Dr. Achaye Innocent is a senior environmental management professional and chemical engineer with extensive experience in chemicals, waste, radiation safety, and pollution prevention. He currently serves as a Manager at the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), where he supports regulatory oversight and national pollution control efforts. His background in chemical engineering, combined with his role on high-level national and international technical committees, provides GAHP with strong expertise in chemical safety, regulatory frameworks, and evidence based environmental governance. His engagement with UNEP global processes further strengthens GAHP’s connection to international policy dialogue.
Their combined leadership in environmental health, chemical safety, and pollution governance will be highly valuable to GAHP as it continues supporting country-led action under the Environmental Pollution Programme in Uganda and beyond.
