Organization: Global Alliance on Health and Pollution (GAHP)
Location: based in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania or Rwanda Laos, with possible travel
Duration: November 2025 – March 2026
About GAHP:
GAHP is a collaborative body made up of more than 60 members and dozens of observers that advocates for resources and solutions to pollution problems. GAHP was formed because international and national level actors/ agencies recognize that a collaborative, multi-stakeholder, multi-sectoral approach is necessary and critical to deal with the global pollution crisis and resulting health and economic impacts.
GAHP’s overall goal is to reduce death and illness caused by all forms of toxic pollution, including air, water, soil and chemical wastes especially in low and middle-income countries. These efforts will contribute to achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals related to pollution, particularly on Health (Targets 3.4 and 3.9).
GAHP is leading the establishment of the Regional Pollution Forum on pollution for Sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia, in partnership with the UK Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). The Forum will bring together governments, UN agencies, civil society, academia, and the private sector to address regional pollution challenges and promote sustainable development and public health.
Position overview
GAHP is seeking a Regional Forum Coordinator to support stakeholder engagement, organize events, and facilitate the implementation of the Forum. This role combines technical expertise in environmental health with strong organizational and networking skills. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work independently as well as in a team, will be an excellent writer, extremely detail oriented, organized and have a proven track record of delivering work products on-time. Research and data interpretation skills, logical thinking and the ability to contribute ideas are also key. Ideally, the candidate will also have a keen interest in the health and environmental impact of pollution.
Key Responsibilities:
Map and engage national and regional stakeholders, processes and meetings across government, United Nations, academia, civil society, and private sector.
Organize regional meetings, workshops, and virtual events, managing logistics, agendas, and participant coordination.
Provide expertise on pollution prevention, environmental health, and regional policy frameworks (including UN conventions).
Support the organization of the Regional Pollution Forum.
Prepare reports, briefings, and communication materials for Forum activities.
Be able to work across various time zones.
Support day-to-day coordination and follow-up with partners and participants.
Fluent in English, written and oral, with knowledge of at least one local language.
Able to work in a multicultural environment.
Represent GAHP or GAHP interests in the regions, facilitating meetings and workshops with governments, community leaders and members, contractors, marginalized communities and others as necessary
Qualifications:
At least 10 years of experience working in the field of Environmental Health, Public Health, Environmental Science or related field.
Master’s degree in environmental health, Public Health, Environmental Science, or related field. PHD’s Degree is a plus.
Knowledge of regional environmental health and pollution landscape.
Familiarity with related UN conventions and processes (BRS-GFC- Minamata)
Experience in stakeholder engagement, event organization, and project coordination.
Strong communication, networking, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and travel nationally or regionally as needed.

OFFICE CONDITION
This is a Part-time position that requires a minimum of 30 hours per week. GAHP currently has an office in Geneva Switzerland. GAHP does not currently have an office in Africa and applicants will be expected to work from home full time.
Preference will be given to those who meet all the requirements and who can start immediately.
